Detective Pikachu 2

Detective Pikachu was released in May 2019 and it starred Justice Smith as Tim Goodman. Smith portrayed the role of a former Pokémon trainer who partners up with a talking Pikachu (voiced by Ryan Reynolds) as the duo looks to investigate the death of Tim Goodman’s father.

The movie was commercially successful as it amassed $430 million at the worldwide box office. Smith said to Inverse in 2021 that he doesn’t think a sequel could take place in the future.

“I would love to participate in Detective Pikachu 2 [but] I don’t know if it’s going to happen. I think we have to just kind of bury our hopes. I don’t think it’s going to happen. I really hope so though. Honestly, I’m such a huge fan, who knows, who knows? I hope so,” said Smith back then.

The Pokémon Company revealed in 2019 that they’re currently developing a sequel to the Detective Pikachu game for Nintendo Switch. Creatures Inc. will be developing the game once again for the company.
