Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 4 2024: Jetpack Nerf and Mobility Meta Updates

Fortnite Chapter 5, Season 4 brings another jetpack nerf, reducing fuel and limiting boosts. However, RNG spawn rates and overpowered mythic combos continue to frustrate players.

Fortnite Chapter 5, Season 4 has brought with it some wild mobility-focused metas, thanks to the introduction of the War Machine’s Hover Jets. Paired with mythic weapons, this deadly combo made players an unstoppable force in the Battle Royale. But Epic Games isn’t done tweaking just yet.

Another Jetpack Nerf? Yep, It’s Happened

After several balance updates, the jetpack has been hit with yet another nerf. This time, it’s all about trimming down its fuel and making those mid-air boosts a little less frequent. Many players have breathed a sigh of relief, happy that jetpack spammers won’t be dominating the skies. But despite this nerf, one frustrating issue still lingers...

RNG Jetpacks – The Spawn Rate Problem

The real frustration? It’s all about RNG. The spawn rate of jetpacks was already reduced in a previous patch, meaning getting your hands on one is now purely up to chance. So while the jetpack itself might not be as OP as before, there’s still a big gap between players with a jetpack and those without.

One Reddit user summed it up: “The only change is that players will spam boosts less, but it’s still crazy strong against anyone stuck on the ground.” Ouch.

Slow and Awkward – But Still OP

While the jetpack may feel slower and less agile now, it’s still a nightmare to go up against, especially with the lack of other mobility items or hitscan weapons to balance things out. Combine it with mythics, medallions, or other survival-boosting gear, and you’ve got a recipe for disaster.

If you’re unlucky enough to be caught on the ground without a jetpack, you’re probably getting melted before you can even react. This has been a long-standing complaint since the spawn rate was nerfed, and players are getting fed up.

What Players Want: Cooldowns or Counters

Many players feel the jetpack still has the upper hand despite its awkward fuel limitations. One suggestion from the community? Add more items that can counter the jetpack’s dominance, or at the very least, make it less essential by introducing alternatives.

Some players also believe that a simple cooldown between boosts would’ve been a better fix, instead of just burning through fuel faster.

Shockwave Grenades to the Rescue?

Another popular suggestion is to up the spawn rate for Shockwave Grenades, a handy escape tool when you’re caught without a jetpack. These grenades can help level the playing field, giving grounded players a fighting chance to get away from the airborne menace.

Even Ninja’s Fed Up

The Fortnite streamer Ninja has had enough of these “jetpack sweats” ruining the game, and he’s not alone. Players everywhere are looking for Epic to do more to balance the mobility meta in Chapter 5, Season 4.

In the meantime, if you’re lucky enough to find a jetpack, consider yourself part of the airborne elite – but be prepared to dodge plenty of frustrated complaints from the ground!
