Online video games like NBA 2K25 run on servers, making them vulnerable to complex bugs and hiccups that occur for various reasons. While you can usually easily deal with minor player-sided causes like outdated drivers, laggy internet connections, and software interruptions, internal server-sided ones require developer intervention to fix.

Here's what you can do to find out why NBA 2K25 is crashing on your platform.

NBA 2K25 Crashing Errors: How to Fix

Since NBA 2K25 launched on September 6 (September 4 for pre-order), players have expressed anger on Reddit and Steam about the annoying crashing issues they've encountered. You are definitely not the only one who is experiencing crashes on startup or while loading MyCareer or MyGM modes in the game; these problems are widespread across platforms and are affecting various players.

Needless to say, 2K should have optimized its latest NBA iteration, especially its PC version, better. The $70 price tag is not cheap and if you shell out that much money for a game, you expect it to at least launch without any issues.
Well, things should get better with time as 2K fixes prevalent issues and optimizes the servers, but until then, you can try the following remedies to get rid of the crashes.

1)Disable game overlays

If you use overlays (Discord, Nvidia, AMD, etc.) for quick tasks, we suggest disabling them as they are one of the most common causes of crashes in the game. This can prevent or at least minimize the crashing issues you are facing in NBA 2K25.

2) Check for outdated drivers

Whether you are on a console or a PC, make sure that your platform’s software is up-to-date. If on a PC, make sure that your video drivers are updated to their latest versions.

3) Fix internet issues

We don’t need to reiterate how notorious laggy internet connections can be. Make sure that your network is not lagging when you try to play NBA 2K25. Restart your router and modem and connect to a direct internet connection instead of wireless if possible. You can also change the DNS used by your network to a more gaming-friendly one. Lastly, make sure that you are not connected to a VPN.

4) Disable Windows Defender

If you use Windows Defender, disable its firewall and then check if you can launch NBA 2K25 without any issues. Do the same if you are using a third-party antivirus tool. If this fixes the crashes, you now know the culprit. Make sure the game is not being blocked by the anti-virus you are using. You can go into the firewall settings and check if its .exe file is allowed to pass through the barrier. If not, adding it to the green list should fix the crashes.
If none of the above solutions work (they may not work for many players as internal factors are involved), we recommend submitting a ticket to 2K and waiting for a curated solution.
